The West Virginia Commission on the Arts (WVCA) of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History is announcing the formation of an Accessibility to the Arts Advisory Committee. The committee will work with Martha Collins, 504/ADA Coordinator for the Arts Section, to help identify professional West Virginia artists with disabilities, develop a long-range accessibility plan for recommendation to the WVCA, and provide assistance to state arts organizations through workshops and resources.
The committee includes artists, educators and representatives from arts organizations, social service agencies and private business firms across the state. Members include John W. Burdette, Ronceverte; Darren Burton, Morgantown; Christy Clemons-Rodgers, Lewisburg; Mark Derry, Morgantown; Vicki Jordan, Hurricane; Ruth Ann King, Charleston; Susan Landis, (WVCA member), Beckley; Ann Watts Meadows, Institute; Jim Strawn, Charleston; Stella Walker, Romney; Genny Zbach, Fairmont; and Rose McDonough, (Division staff member), Charleston.
The group will work to distribute technical information about becoming compliant with the 1974 Rehabilitation Act and the 1990 American with Disabilities Act. For more information about the Accessibility to the Arts Advisory Committee, contact Collins at (304) 558-0220.
