The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History is accepting applications for its 16th annual African-American Heritage Arts Camp. The camp offers students in grades 9-12 an opportunity to study the performing and visual arts with professional artists. Disciplines of instruction include dance (modern, jazz, hip-hop, classical ballet and Afro-Haitian), music/vocal (proper techniques and presentation), music/percussion (jazz, blues and popular music), visual arts (painting, drawing and sculpting) and drama (basic theater skills).
This year’s camp will be held June 16-24 at Camp Washington-Carver in Clifftop, Fayette County. Arts camp participants will be housed in the dormitory at the camp. Meals will be served in the lodge.
An enrollment fee of $75 includes lodging, three meals per day and all instructional materials. Scholarships are available based upon financial need. Funding for the camp is provided by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, West Virginia Commission on the Arts, West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, Office of the Governor, and the Bernard H. and Blanche E. Jacobson Foundation.
