Teachers urged to invite outstanding students to apply to 2002 African-American Heritage Arts Camp

The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History is accepting applications for its 17th annual African-American Heritage Arts Camp. The camp offers students who have completed grades 8-12 an opportunity to study the performing and visual arts with professional artists. Disciplines of instruction include dance (modern, jazz, hip-hop, classical ballet and Afro-Haitian), vocal music (proper techniques and presentation), percussion (jazz, blues and popular music), visual arts (painting, drawing and sculpting) and drama (basic theater skills). Teachers are urged to invite outstanding arts students to apply.

This year’s camp will be held June 15-22 at Camp Washington-Carver in Clifftop, Fayette County. Arts camp participants will be housed in the dormitory at the camp. Meals will be served in the lodge.

An enrollment fee of $100 includes lodging, three meals per day and all instructional materials. Scholarships are available based upon financial need.
