Applications for West Virginia Commission on the Arts’ Artist Roster and Program Guide now being accepted

1/23/04

Applications from West Virginia artists are now being accepted for review for the new Arts in Education Artist Roster and Program Guide, published by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History’s West Virginia Commission on the Arts (WVCA). Applications must be received by Feb. 24, 2004.

The Artist Roster and Program Guide is a resource tool for teachers/educators, schools, arts and community organizations and other potential sponsors of arts in education projects. The program includes support for artist residencies, special projects, artist visits, West Virginia touring artist programs, workshop leader fees, development of conferences or forums on arts education, travel assistance to artists, arts administrators, and educators for trips to model sites, out-of-state conferences or other professional development opportunities, materials necessary for the completion of a funded residency or special project, creation of educational materials for new productions to tour in schools, and exhibits in art centers or museums and other innovative projects.

The new directory is scheduled to be published in the fall of 2004, and will be distributed to schools and organizations throughout the state. Although sponsors are not required to select artists from the directory to be eligible for support from the WVCA, the publication does provide them with a starting point to accessing West Virginia teaching artists and a program guide for projects that are eligible for funding.

Professional working artists currently active in their field who are legal residents of West Virginia at the time of application are eligible to apply. In addition, applicants must be over the age of 18 and cannot be full-time students.
