The Archives and History Section of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History is announcing that the proposed guidelines for the County Records Management and Preservation Grant Program (CRMPGP) are now available for public review and comment.
The grant program will award funds to county governments to develop more uniform, efficient and effective records programs, which will promote the preservation of records of enduring value and continued public access to the records. In addition, the grant program is interested in preservation techniques and reformatting, paying particular attention to efficient and cost-effective methods that apply the best practices and standards available.
Last year, the West Virginia State Legislature established the Records Management and Preservation Board to submit rules to address county record needs. It consists of four members representing county offices, a title lawyer and historical/genealogical researcher appointed by the governor and three state officials serving in an ex officio capacity.
The proposed guidelines are available at county courthouses, local genealogical and historical associations, the Archives and History office at The Cultural Center, 1900 Kanawha Blvd., E., Charleston, W.Va. 25305-0300 and on the Division’s website at www.wvculture.org/history/592rules.html. The deadline for public comment is 5 p.m. on July 25, 2001.
