Join us as we take to the skies with some fabulous flyers when the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History continues its Free Family Fun series on Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Cultural Center, State Capitol Complex in Charleston. Hands-on activities are geared for children; however, visitors of all ages are invited to discover something new by participating in the free event.
Participants will gather in the Great Hall for the day’s activities. Children can create a kite out of wood struts and plastic and decorate it with markers. They can take it home, add string and fly it in their backyards.
The outer limits will be explored with the construction of flying saucers. Kids can color and trim these small frisbees and add their own alien touches.
Rounding out the day’s activities, budding pilots can earn their stripes as they build a Super Foam Wing Master airplane. In addition, the bird’s perspective also will be explored as kids assemble a foam parrot and decorate it to look like it just flew in for a visit from the tropics.
Free Family Fun Day is an ongoing series that occurs on the last Saturday of every month. The August event will focus on quilting. For more information about Free Family Fun Day, contact Bil Lepp, education coordinator for the Division, at (304) 558-0220, ext. 131.
