The West Virginia Commission on the Arts of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History is accepting applications for special training and travel grants to attend the National Performing Arts Convention 2004 which will be held in Pittsburgh, Pa., from June 8 - 13. Performing artists, arts administrators and board members from West Virginia performing arts organizations are invited to apply.
Funding is available to support registration, travel and lodging expenses for the convention. The percentage of expenses the grants can support is dependent upon the number of applications received. Applications must be postmarked April 30, 2004 in order to be considered.
The National Performing Arts Convention: Taking the Arts to the Next Stage: Pittsburgh 2004 represents the first-ever gathering of national arts leaders from across a spectrum of performing arts disciplines. The convention offers an opportunity to demonstrate the dimension of the non-profit performing arts sector and its value to civic life in cultural, educational and economic terms. It also will underscore the richness and diversity of the arts in America as exemplified by Pittsburgh’s acclaimed arts organizations including the American Symphony Orchestra League, Chorus America, Dance/USA, OPERA America, Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Symphony, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Public Theater, Association of Performing Arts Presenters, Chamber Music America, American Composers Forum, American Music Center, Meet the Composer, Music Critics Association of North America and National Alliance for Musical Theater.
