The historic West Virginia Independence Hall Museum in Wheeling will celebrate this holiday season with a Dec. 2 open house and a concert on Dec. 16.
The open house will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 2-4 p.m. and will feature a 2 p.m. performance by the Renaissance City Winds. The ensemble’s repertoire spans a wide variety of styles and eras from the 16th century to the present, with a special emphasis on American music. The Pittsburgh group has recorded two compact discs and performed at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. A reception will follow the performance.
On Sunday, Dec. 16, young Ohio Valley musicians will perform “A Strings Musicale” at the museum. The concert begins at 4 p.m. and will include both classical and holiday music. The program is being sponsored in cooperation with the Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley Inc.

West Virginia Independence Hall Museum, originally built as a federal custom house in 1859, served as the home of the pro-Union state conventions of Virginia during the spring and summer of 1861 and as the capitol of loyal Virginia from June 1861 to June 1863. It also was the site of the first constitutional convention for West Virginia.
The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the exception of some holidays and is located on the corner of 16th and Market Streets in Wheeling. The facility is operated by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History with the cooperation and assistance of the West Virginia Independence Hall Foundation.
