Description of Records Retention Period Comments
Civil Cases

Material relating to civil proceedings. Originals filed in Circuit Clerk's office in most cases.

Retain until legal action ended or of no further value to Prosecutor, then destroy.    
Criminal Cases

Copies of all papers which are related to each criminal case tried in Court. Originals filed in the Circuit Clerk's Office in most cases.

Murder, rape and armed robbery cases

Retain until legal action ended or of no further value to Prosecutor, then destroy.

Juvenile Cases

Copies of all papers and documents related to each juvenile case handled in Prosecutor's Office. Originals are filed in Circuit Clerk's Office in most cases.

Retain until legal action ended or of no further value to Prosecutor, then destroy.    
Non-Support Cases

Copies of all papers and documents related to each non-support case handled in Prosecutor's Office. Originals are filed in Circuit Clerk's Office in most cases.

Retain until legal action ended or of no further value to Prosecutor, then destroy.
