Most of the people of Charleston, we think, are pleased to welcome Rev. Martin Luther King to the city.
When he arrives tonight for a speaking engagement Sunday, the Alabama clergyman, without trying too hard, could find considerable evidence of the radical attitudes he has fought so bravely in the South.
But he also will find a substantial number of men of good will, and he can see some evidence of their work.
We hope Mr. King can understand that he is visiting a city that is more South than North and that he will judge us in that knowledge.
Perhaps then our city can bolster the spirit of this courageous man and prove to him that his fight hasn't been entirely in vain.
