		Dear Sir
			On 30th [?] the members of our home guard elected myself Captain in lieu of Amos Culp who has resigned having enlisted in the army We greatly need a Home Guard here to protect ourselves against the guerillas [?] [?] that have from time ^to time infested us. You will therefore confer a great favor on the Loyal men of this vicinity by sending as soon as you conveniently can I our commission.
