Transcription of 16-02

Greenwood Doddridge Co.
West Virginia 1st August 1864

A. I. Boreman Governor W. Va.

Dear Sir

On 30th ult. the members of our home guard elected myself Capt in lieu of Amos Culp who had resigned having enlisted in the army.

We greatly need a Home Guard here to protect ourselves against the guerillas and horse thieves that have from time to time infested us. You will therefore confer a great favour on the loyal men of this vicinity by sending as soon as you conveniently can our commissions.

Very respectfully yours,
Nelson Duckworth
