State of West Va Doddridge County , [?] April 1st 1864. The following subsriber [sic] personally appeared before me, and took the following oath. I solemnely [sic] & volentarily [sic] swear that I will support protect & defend the Constitution & Government of the United States against all enemies what ever, domestic or foreign, & that I will, in true faith, allegeince [sic] & loyalty, to the same, any ordinanes [sic] resolution or law, if any State Constitution or legislature, to the contrary [sic] no truth standing, and further [?] I do this with a full determination, pledge & purpose, without any mental resluation, [sic] or evasion what ever & further I will^ up hold & defend the Constitution & Government of West Virginia. I do further pledge myself as a^member of a scouting company to obey my officers. & to be subject to all the rules & regulations of the Governor of West Va
