Company F of the 11th Ry Wva Inf ty Stationed here have received orders to go to Martinsburg & will leave today which leaves us here pretty weak but we have our Black house partly built and I am making arangements to hold our postion against two or three hundred Rebb if they sh[?] attempt to get in
I am anxious to recruit my company up to about fifty that I can more effectually help out surrelly I wish you would let me again insist that you send no clothing [?] for about two men that is in addition to the twenty five I [?] for when at Wheeling which will make in all thirty five men, but that is not enough for this county ask the Governor how many he will allow me to recruit to hold & protect this county and keep all the Rebbles out of it he told me when thine[sic] I might make it a hundred You know that a good company here is all the protection the counties of Ritchie & Dodridge should want and companies out in those counties are verry[sic] near a force for the Home Guards answer every purpose they can effect . I should like to get me a good company here and then change them into the US service
