Child of the Rebellion: West Virginia Sesquicentennial
Civil War Union Militia Correspondence

Kana Salines 6 Oct 61

Genl Samuels

Your few 27 [illegible] touching our militia organization reached me only two days since. I [illegible] our C.H. yesterday and find that little can be learned in sates and action of your command - we have had no Colonel - The Lieutenant Col. Departed with wise and our former organization may be regarded as extinct.

I enclose your letter to Genl. P. H. Steinlung [questionable] in Mason Cty for such as he may be able or willing to give in response

I have mentioned in one company of volunteers for state service and have withheld others - That enlistments for US service might not be hindered

Very Truly

L Ruffner
Adjutant
