New Playhouse To Be Opened With "Around the Clock" Monday.
The announcement in a late edition of the News Thursday that the new Virginia theater would be opened next Monday evening caused a great deal of interest among local theater-goers. The finishing work in the theater is being pushed as rapidly as possible. Very little remains to be done. No carpets will be down Monday evening nor draperies hung, but the seats are in and the stage complete throughout so that the performance will not suffer in the least.
A full description of the new house has already appeared in the News. Glesey & Faris were the architects, but many of the features about the building are according to Mr. Feinler's own ideas. There are no stairways leading to the balcony and gallery, but runways instead. The seating capacity of the house is 1900.
It is complete in every respect and thoroughly fire proof. It easily takes rank with the finest theaters in this part of the country, and will compare favorably with the popular price houses anywhere in the country.
The opening attraction will be "Around the Clock" with the Ritchie London Pantomine Co. It is a big musical show, with many fine features, plenty of fun, music and a big chorus, and will make an admirable opening attraction.
Located on 12th Street in downtown Wheeling, the Virginia Theater hosted the WWVA Jamboree for many years. Closed in July 1962, the building was later demolished.
