Young Shellcroft was so unfortunate as to lose both parents when he was young and was taken care of by his grandmother. She died also when he was in his teens and the boy came to live with relatives at Baltimore. He laid the foundation of his education at St. Johns, but, of course, completed his schooling in this country. He has been a hard worker since he was ten years of age, as he was under the necessity of making his own way in college. For his medical course, he matriculated at Leonard Medical College at Shaw University, Raleigh, N. C., and won his M.D. degree in 1900. In recent years he has specialized in Electro-Therapeutics, in which he took a course at the National College Electro-Therapeutics and won his M.E. degree in 1918. While in college he was on the foot ball team.
After his graduation, Dr. Shellcroft located at Parkersburg, where he has since resided and where he has built up an extensive practice. He gives special attention to genitourinary surgery. He is a member of the State Medical and Dental Association, and is Assistant City Health Officer, also Medical Inspector of the City Schools. In politics he is a Republican, in religion an Episcopalian. He is also prominent in the work of the secret orders. He holds membership in the Odd Fellows, the Masons, the Pythians and the Court of Calanthe. In the Pythians he is Past Supreme Representative and member of the Finance Committee in the Grand Lodge. He is Grand Medical Register for the Grand Lodge of Calanthe and medical examiner for the local courts and K. of P.'s Lodges. Master of Exchequer of local Knights of Pythians Lodge. His reading, after his professional books, runs to the best English and American fiction. He volunteered during the war, but was not called into service, as the Armistice was signed soon after tendered his professional service.
Dr. Shellcroft says "We are living in the greatest State in the world. With mutual understanding and co-operation along industrial lines in the buying of land and building factories we can become a power for good."
It is gratifying to record that the doctor has prospered in a business way. His property interests and investments are at Parkersburg.
