We learn from Mr. J. A. Baugman, clerk of Webster county, that the Yankees having erected a log fort near the corner of Webster, Lewis and Upshur counties, and garrisoned it with about eighty men, some four hundred citizens of the first named county volunteered to go and "clean them out." This they did in the most thorough and satisfactory manner on Tuesday, the 25th inst., killing and wounding about fifty of the intruders, and starting the others on a long trot for safer quarters. This the brave Webster men did without the loss of one of their party. They captured a valuable amount of booty, embracing eight horses, a lot of arms, stores and money. The Yankees had made themselves very comfortable and imagined they were safe. The Webster men thought they had no right to be so, and acted as they thought. The den was completely broken up.
