Journal read and approved. Mr. Ruffner read from the committee on Taxation and Finance, reported House Bill No. 14, entitled "A Bill to regulate the tax on Seals," and House Bill No. 15, entitled "A Bill to prescribe the manner in which money may be paid into the Treasury of the State."
Mr. Kramer from the committee on Military Affairs, to whom was referred the Senate amendment to the House substitute for the Senate joint resolution respecting the extension of the Department of the Monongahela, reported it back, with a recommendation that it pass.
Mr. Zinn from the committee on Claims and Grievances, to whom was referred a resolution directing that committee to inquire into the expediency of reporting a bill requiring farmers to keep their stock within their enclosures, reported it inexpedient to legislate on the subject.
On motion of Mr. Ruffner,
Resolved, That the Sergeant-at-Arms be directed to purchase immediately, for the use of this House, the Codes of the States of Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.
On motion of Mr. Barns,
Resolved, That the committee on Roads and Internal Navigation be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing for rebuilding the bridge across Buffalo creek at Barnsville, on the Maryland and Ohio Turnpike.
Engrossed House Bill No. 8, entitled "A Bill relating to exemption from military duty," was taken up, read the third time, and passed with its title.

House Bill No. 13, entitled "An Act to authorize the Superintendent of Schools for Preston county, to pay certain claims for the tuition of indigent children," was read the second time, and ordered to engrossment.
On motion of Mr. Van Winkle,
Resolved, That the committee on Roads, &c., inquire into and report as to the expediency of rebuilding the bridges recently destroyed on the Staunton and Parkersburg turnpike road, in the counties of Wood and Wirt.
On motion of Mr. Fleming,
Resolved, that the committee on Military Affairs inquire whether any provision has been made for the payment of militia for services rendered in defense of the State, and report to this House.
A message from the Senate announced that that body had amended the House joing resolution proposing that when it adjourns this day it adjourn till Monday next, by substituting "Tuesday."
Mr. Van Winkle moved that the House agree.
On this motion Mr. Ruffner demanded the yeas and nays, and they were ordered and taken.
