Pocahontas County Meeting.
September 28, 1863
At a meeting of citizens of Pocahontas county held at Clarksburg, Harrison co., West Virginia, on the 24th day of September, 1863, on motion, David M. Burges was called to the Chair and John B. Garvy appointed Secretary. David M. Burges being called upon, explained the object of the meeting to be to appoint delegates to a Convention to be held at Grafton, W. V., on the 1st day of October next, to nominate a suitable candidate to represent the Second Congressional District in the next Congress of the United States, and also to designate a time and place for holding a Convention of the citizens of the county to nominate suitable candidates to be voted for to fill the several county and State offices at the approaching fall elections. On motion of the President, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:
Resolved, That approving of the object of the Convention to assemble at Grafton to nominate a candidate for Congress for the Second District, five delegates from each magisterial district be appointed to represent this county in said Convention, and that said delegates be instructed to vote for some good unconditional Union man for Congress.
Whereupon the following delegates were appointed:
First District - John B. Garvey, Nelson Pray.
Second District - David M. Burges, Wm. R. Moore.
Third District - Wm. C. Rennison, J. W. Allen.
Fourth District - Samuel Gibson, Adam Arbogast.
On motion of Wm. C. Kennison it was
Resolved, That the proceedings of this meeting be signed by the President and Secretary, and forwarded to the Wheeling Intelligencer, with a request to publish the same.
