From the Kanawha

From an officer of one of the regiments stationed in the Kanawha Valley, who left Charleston, Va., on Friday, and arrived here yesterday morning, we learn that our pickets on the Raleigh road, between Fayetteville and Raleigh, were attacked and surrounded on Sunday morning last. After a fight they all escaped but one. Skirmishing continued until noon of Tuesday, when our pickets were all driven in. The enemy attacked the force under command of Colonel White at 1 P.M. on Tuesday with cannon, and kept up the fire briskly until Wednesday noon when they fell back. We fought them from our breastworks, and had one killed and nine wounded. The rebels were under Brigadier General McCausland.
It is known that Generals Imboden and Eckels were at Lewisburg, Va., with the force that was lately operating on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, and it is expected that this movement on Fayetteville is merely a feint while they operate elsewhere.
Our Generals are making the necessary preparations to meet any disposition that may be made of the rebel force in the Kanawha Valley.
