Rebel Raid on Coalsmouth. - On Friday night, of week before last, about 9 o'clock the rebels under command of Wm. Nouning, numbering 100, attacked the U.S. Military Post at Coalsmouth, Putnam county which was guarded by one company the 7th West Va. Cavalry, under command of Capt. Smith. The fight lasted for about one hour, when the rebels retreated with a loss of one killed and eight wounded. They fell back toward Mud Bridge, where Lieut. Wade with six men attacked them and captured Nouning and one of his men, but Nouning, owing to the darkness of the night, succeeded in making his escape. The other prisoner together with four horses were brought into a field. On the Saturday following, a squad of men belonging to Capt. R. B. Blundon's company on their way from Guyandotte to Kanawha, captured some ten or twelve of this gang.
