ACCIDENTLY SHOT. - A day or two since R. Fuget of Co. A, 4th Va. Regiment accidentally shot Corporal W. Davis, of Co. E, at Charleston, Kanawha Co. Fuget had just come off guard duty with his peice [sic] loaded. He took the cap off and while letting the hammer down, the piece was discharged. Corporal Davis was standing about 20 yards off when shot. The ball struck between the back bone and left hop and passed angling through, causing death in about two hours. The ball passed through two tents and a box afterwards. Both surgeons of the 4th Va. Regiment, were called in immediately, but the wound was of such a character that nothing could be done to save life.
