Union Meeting at Roseby's Rock .
Pursuant to public notice the citizens of Roseby's Rock and vicinity, assembled at the large and commodious store room of W. F. Johnson. The meeting was called to order by appointing Rev. John Ally Chairman, and W. F. Johnson Secretary.
Speeches were made by Messrs. Burley, Trainer and Criswell. The issue of the campaign were fully and forcibly presented, and the platform of the sham-democracy thoroughly dissected and exposed, and that little man that has lately fallen among thieves, set off in no enviable character.
Without attempting to give a synopsis of the speeches suffice it to say, that the butternuts were completely hulled if not somewhat cracked (which latter seems to be hereditary.) In view of the multiplicity of Union candidates for the House of Delegates, and as the sham-democracy have a ticket in the field, the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
Resolved, That in the opinion of this meeting, Mesrs. F. H. Train and William Alexander, can combine a larger number of votes than any other two candidates for the House of Delegates, and so believing , it is our duty under the circumstances to unite upon these two, and we would respectfully recommend the same to our Union friends throughout the county.
On motion, it was ordered that the proceeding of this meeting be offered the Wheeling Intelligencer for publication.
