Emwood Calvin Ables
1924-1944

Pvt. Emwood Ables was born in Lewis County, West Virginia, on June 25, 1924. He was one of four sons (Glenn, Henry, James, and Emwood) and five daughters (Pearl, Icie, Bessie, Necie, and Delphia) born to Walter C. and Effie Riffle Ables. At the time of Emwood's death, Glenn was also serving in the Army in New Guinea.

Emwood entered the Army on March 9, 1944, and served with the 52nd Field Artillery Battalion, Battery A. He was due home on furlough as soon as he completed maneuvers, but on July 2, he drowned while on assignment at Camp Roberts, California.

Pfc. Ables is interred in the Harrison Grove Church Cemetery in Lewis County.
