Army Private First Class James F. Adams hailed from Troy in Gilmer County, West Virginia. He was born on April 14, 1919, to Emory E. and Eulah [Emily?] Flesher Adams. According to the 1930 Census and Pfc. Adams' obituary, he was one of eight children in the family, which also included Denzel, Raymond, Kathleen Sleeth, Margaret, Geneva, Helen, and Janelea. At the time of James's death, Raymond was also in the Army and stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
