Remember...Warren Steele Adams

Technician Fifth Grade Warren Steele Adams was born on November 9, 1922, to Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Adams of Sophia, Raleigh County, West Virginia. He died in Germany of non-battle causes on April 14, 1945, very near the close of the war.
Warren was one of four brothers, three of whom were serving in the armed forces at the time of his death. His siblings included sisters Lottie Adams Wilburn of Baltimore, Maryland, and Irmogene Adams of Sophia. Two brothers were also serving in the war:H. Garland Adams (U. S. Navy) and Pfc. Buford W. Adams (Army Air Corps). His youngest brother, Douglas, remained in Beckley. Technician Fifth Grade Adams was married and had one son, Ray Dale.
According to the U.S. Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946, T/5 Adams enlisted on March 13, 1943, at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky, and was joined to an ordnance unit. The records show that he had completed two years of high school and in civilian life was engaged in "unskilled occupations in extraction of minerals"; as he was from Raleigh County, it is likely that he was a coal miner.
Warren Steele Adams was buried in Wildwood American Legion Cemetery in Beckley, Raleigh County.
