William Ora Artrip
1929-1951

William Ora Artrip was born October 23, 1929, in Glenhayes, the third of six children born to Ora and Betty Wellman Artrip.

William graduated from Fort Gay High School where he was a member of the football team. He was a member of the Saltpetre Church and before entering the Army was employed by the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit.

William entered the Army on October 5, 1950, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and was assigned to the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. By March 7, 1951, Pvt. William O. Artrip was in the Seoul area of South Korea. He was wounded and later that same day died of those wounds.

His body was returned to the United States in September of 1951 and was buried in the Wellman Cemetery in Wayne County.
