Jackie Lee Dickens
1940-1969

Jackie Lee Dickens was born July 6, 1940, in Van, West Virginia, the son of Sidney and Sylvia Cornette Dickens. Jackie had five brothers and two sisters.

Jackie graduated from Scott High School in Madison and from Morris Harvey College, where he studied accounting and business administration and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1965. He attended Officer's Training School and completed pilot training at Craig Air Force Base in Alabama. He was then assigned as a co-pilot to the 34th Bombardment Squadron at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, flying B-52s prior to his tour of duty in Vietnam. He married Margaret Bryant and they become the parents of a daughter, Angela Dawn.

Captain Jackie L. Dickens tour of duty began August 13, 1968. He served as an instructor pilot in 0-2 aircraft, planes used in forward air control missions. On June 2, 1969, he was killed in combat. The body of Captain Dickens was returned to the United States and was buried in Madison Memorial Gardens.
