Remember...Andrew Lee Greer

Andrew Lee Greer was born May 20, 1928, at Davy, West Virginia, the son of Robert Millard and Zilla Duncan Greer.
Andrew, known as "Andy," attended Welch High School, where he was a member of the basketball and football teams. He entered the service in October 1946 during his senior year.
During the Korean Conflict, Andy was attached to the Headquarters Battery, 77th Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division. On October 13, 1950, Pfc. Greer was in the area of Paechon, South Korea, and as his unit moved to new position it was ambushed by a force which outnumbered them and which was entrenched on the high ground which surrounded them. Pfc. Greer and three other members of the unit voluntarily moved forward through intense enemy fire from a safe position to one which better suited observation and efficiency. During the ensuing action in which he assisted in manning a heavy machine gun and directing effective fire on the enemy forces, he inflicted heavy casualties and contributed substantially to the defeat of the attack. At this time, Pfc. Greer was mortally wounded.
| The body of Pfc. Andrew Lee Greer was returned to the United States and interred at Iaeger Memorial Cemetery. In June 1952 his parents accepted a Bronze Star awarded posthumously to their son during a ceremony conducted at the gravesite. |  Mr. and Mrs. Robert Greer accepting Bronze Star |
