Hilton Snowdon Kessel
1918-1944

Hilton Snowdon Kessel was born July 24, 1918, in Kessel, West Virginia, the third child of Elmer and Lilian Bean Kessel.

Hilton S. Kessel entered the Army Air Corps in October 1942 at Fort Hayes, Ohio. After receiving his training he received his wings in August 1943 and was assigned duty in the Pacific as a member of the 40th Fighter Squad, 35th Fighter Group. In May 1944, Hilton was promoted to lieutenant. Also in May 1944, he was awarded the Air Medal "for meritorious achievement while participating in operational flight missions in the southwest Pacific area." As of October 10, 1944, Lt. Kessel was reported missing while on a mission over Borneo.

The date of death for Lt. Hilton S. Kessel is listed as October 31, 1944. His name appears on the Tablets of the missing at Manila American Cemetery.
