Remember...Wayne Huffman Kidd

Wayne Huffman Kidd was born February 24, 1936, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the eldest of two sons born to Clarence and Betty Sams Kidd.
Wayne attended Victory High School and graduated in 1954 having established an outstanding scholastic record. He also was a member of the band. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Physics from West Virginia University. While at WVU, he received ROTC training and was awarded his commission on August 30, 1958. The following day, he married Joye L. Skidmore; they would become the parents of four children.
Wayne Kidd arrived in Vietnam on October 1, 1964, where, as a member of the chemical corps, he was assigned as an adviser in the Mekong Delta area.
On December 11, Wayne Kidd, then a captain, was accompanying South Vietnamese forces when they were attacked by Viet Cong troops. He had estimated the Viet Cong build-up in the area and had made a request for reinforcements for the defense of the town, which was protected by only a small force, but before the reinforcements could arrive, the Viet Cong attacked. During his valiant effort to prevent the town from being overrun by the enemy battalion, Capt. Kidd was killed by a gunshot wound to his chest.
