Dallas Watson Miller
1921-1944

"Your son was a brave and valiant soldier" - G. G. Kohn, 1st Lieut. 15th Infantry

Dallas Watson Miller was born December 20, 1921, in Hardy County, West Virginia, the eldest of two sons born to George and Hazel Renner Miller. He attended Wardensville High School and before entering the army was employed by the State Road Commission.

Dallas entered the Army at Fort Hayes, Ohio, on November 16, 1942, and received his basic training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia, and Shenango, Pennsylvania. In March 1943, he was sent to North Africa, where he received amphibious training. He was attached to the 15th Infantry and took part in the invasions of Sicily and southern France. Dallas was wounded in May 1944 but was sent back to active duty on October 23. Two days later, on October 25, he was reported killed in France. Major Lloyd E. Langford, Assistant Division Chaplain, in a letter to his parents, stated, ". . . his unit was in a successful operation against the enemy, he was one of the unfortunate to fall from enemy fire. His death was caused by a shell fragment which struck him in the head."

In 1948 the body of Sgt. Dallas Watson Miller was returned to the United States and on May 23 was buried in Baker United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hardy County, West Virginia.
