Bruce McKinley Noble
1893-1918

Bruce McKinley Noble was born November 6, 1893, in Bertha, Summers County, to William B. and Amanda Evans Noble. He was their third child, although his mother had several children from a previous marriage to George Poteet. At the time of his registration for the draft in June 1917, Bruce Noble was living in Beckley, where he worked for R. M. Shumate.

Bruce Noble enlisted in September 1917 and at the time of his death was serving as a private in Company F, 318th Infantry. On May 22, 1918, the 318th set sail from New York aboard the U.S.S. Leviathan, arriving in France on May 30. On October 5, 1918, Private Noble was killed in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.

The body of Bruce McKinley Noble was returned to the United States and buried at the Barton Cemetery in Summers County.
