Cook Wikel Jr.
1928-1951

Cook Wikel was born February 21, 1928, in Union, West Virginia, the son of Cook and Della Fisher Wikel. He graduated from Union High School, Class of 1946, and was employed at the Celanese Corporation of American at Narrows, Virginia, before entering the service.

Cook Wikel entered the army on November 7, 1950. He received basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, after which he was sent to Fort Sam Houston in order to complete the Surgical Technician Procedure Course at Brooks Army Medical Center, which he did on March 3, 1951. He was assigned to overseas duty, arriving in Japan on April 22, 1951. Cook Wikel then went to Korea and was assigned to the 7th Regiment, 3rd Armored Medical Corps.

Having served in Korea seven months on November 23, 1951, Cook Wikel then a sergeant and a medic attached to E Company, was in the area of Kowang-San, North Korea, when he was killed instantly while aiding a fellow solder.

The body of Sgt. Cook Wikel was returned to the United States and on February 24, 1952, was interred in the Green Hill Cemetery in Monroe County.
