The West Virginia Game
and Fish Commission purchased Droop Mountain Battlefield in
Pocahontas County on April 14, 1928, for use as the first state
park. The site commemorates an 1863 Civil War battle.

1915, Harriett Middaugh Harris used these tennis rackets as a
