The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History will host a Historic Preservation Road Show on Tuesday, March 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Museum in the Park in Chief Logan State Park. The program is free and open to the public.
Members of the SHPO staff will be available to answer questions relating to grants, certified local governments, tax credits, and other resources for preserving historic properties. The program also will serve as an overview of resources available from the SHPO. The Road Show has been partly financed with Federal funds from the National Park Service, Department of the Interior.
A facility of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, Museum in the Park is a regional cultural center showcasing the best in West Virginia history and the arts. Changing exhibits and displays feature artwork and historical items from the collections of the West Virginia State Museum and State Archives. One area of the museum is dedicated to local and regional history. Current exhibits include Snapshots in Time: A Photographic History of West Virginia, featuring 100 images from the State Archives collection, and the Island Creek Model Railroad Club of Logan’s exhibit.
Museum in the Park is located four miles north of Logan on WV Route 10 at Chief Logan State Park in the former park restaurant. Normal operating hours are 5 - 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon - 5 p.m. Sunday. Tours are available during non-business hours by appointment.
