Phil. Thurman Killed!
October 26, 1864
We are authorized to state officially that the guerrillas came into Winfield last night, about 400 strong, under command of Capt. PHIL. THURMAN. They attacked Capt. REYNOLDS' company of the 7th Va. Cav. Posted there, and were handsomely repulsed. Capt. Thurman was mortally wounded, and died in half an hour afterwards. His brother, (Bill Thurman?) was taken prisoner. They hastily retreated, and are being pursued by three companies of the 7th Va. Cavalry, under Major Slack.
