Whether the defeat of Senator Hubert Humphrey in Wisconsin yesterday by Senator John Kennedy, both seeking support for the Democratic presidential nomination, will dampen the ardor of Fayette supporters, or spur them to greater effort, will be revealed Friday when Minnesota Senator Humphrey comes to the county for stops at Montgomery, Fayetteville and Oak Hill.

He will greet voters here and make a short address at 2:45 p. m. before going on to Oak Hill for another brief stop, and will conclude the activities for the day with a speech in Beckley.

Unruffled by the turn of events in Wisconsin Tuesday in which he lost to Senator John Kennedy by upwards of 100,000 votes, Senator Humphrey and Senator Kennedy will wage vigorous campaigns in West Virginia before the May 10th primary, the next election in which both are seeking votes, even though the outcome will not determine what action delegates to the national convention will take.

Next week Senator Kennedy comes to the state and will be in Fayetteville on Monday.

In other significant political action, House Speaker Harry Pauley withdrew from the Democratic race for governor, narrowing the field to th[r]ee candidates, W. W. Barron, Orel J. Skeen and Hulett C. Smith, who spent much of Monday in Fayette County.
