Sen. Hubert Humphrey, presidential hopeful from Minnesota, declared last night in speech at the University, that "it's time for transforming the potential wealth of West Virginia into real prosperity."

Sen. Humphrey appeared as part of a two-day political symposium conducted by University awareness committee. In the address at the Music School, Sen. Humphrey said that this state is being treated like "an unnecessary appendage, getting smaller as the rest of the nation's body grows and prospers."

He proposed the establishment of mine-mouth electric-power stations as an "exciting new possibility for the growth of the coal industry."

He also discussed the need for this nation to correct its depressed areas problem before "telling others abroad how to live." A near capacity crowd waited 30 minutes for the tardy speaker, who was sandwiching the address between a meeting in Wheeling and a session with local labor leaders.
