Abstract: This collection consists of approximately 164 items, most relating to Mrs. Jane Dice of Lewisburg, West Virginia and her involvement in the state United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Note: Papers from Ms. Jane (Stuart Price) Dice, Lewisburg, West Virginia, ca. 1918-1926. About 50 pieces (described below) and a single group of 20 concerning UDC descendants in WW I. In the latter case, she has received from several counties data on servicemen descended from C.S.A. veterans, together with details on unit of service, date of entry, etc. Among these was Newton D. Baker, Secretary of War from Berkeley County. The former lot has several reports on UDC activity and is interesting for excuses given about tardiness.
Ms. Dice's father was John S. Price, noted attorney in Lewisburg, and this lot contains several letters ca. 1870-1888 of family content. This collection also includes various material ranging in date from 1823-1952 including receipts, name cards, publications, newspaper clippings, and legal papers.
