Biographical Note:
The collection is primarily letters between Bill Robinson, his sister, Ann Robinson, and his mother, Julia Robinson, during his time in the United States Army. Entering the service on January 9, 1951, and serving until December 20, 1952, Bill was sent to Korea during the Korean War. He served as a truck driver supplying ammunition to the tanks of the 245th Tank Battalion of the 45th Division of the United States Army. After serving in the Army, and earning his BFA from Ohio University at Athens, Ohio, Bill returned to his employment at Union Carbide and eventually served in several various positions with several Presbyterian, educational and charity organizations.
Scope and Content Note:
The collection span the years 1951-1957, with the bulk dating to the 1951-1952 period. The collection consists primarily of letters to and from Bill Robinson to various family members, mostly his mother, Julia Robinson and his sister, Anna Robinson. Also included are materials relating to his family genealogy: birth, death, marriage and United States Census records.
