HISTORICAL NOTE
The Shepherd family can be traced back to Thomas Shepherd, an early settler of West Virginia and the founder of what is now Shepherdstown, West Virginia (A Brief History of Shepherdstown - Historic Shepherdstown). All five of his sons, including Abraham Shepherd (1754 - 1822), married to Eleanor (Strode) Shepherd, were patriots during the Revolutionary War ("Capt Abraham Shepherd (1754-1822) - Find a Grave...").

Edward Lucas (1790 - 1858) was first lieutenant during the War of 1812 who became a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, and later went on to represent the Valley District of Congress ("Edward Lucas (1790-1858) | WikiTree FREE Family Tree").
