The State Historic Preservation Office of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History is announcing that there is still time to make nominations for the
Preserve America Presidential Awards for 2005. Nominations must be postmarked
by Nov. 1.
The Presidential Awards honor organizations, businesses, government entities
and individuals for exemplary accomplishments in sustainable use and preservation
of cultural and natural heritage assets; demonstrated commitment to protection
and interpretation of these assets, and integrating them into contemporary community
life; and creative and responsible approaches to showcasing heritage assets
in their communities.
Each year, two awards are given for activities advancing heritage tourism, and
two are given for privately funded historic preservation projects or programs.
Nominated activities must have been completed within the last three years.
The awards are presented to winners through a national competition administered
by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the Secretary of the Interior,
in cooperation with other Federal agencies and the executive office of the President.
Awards will be announced during National Historic Preservation Week, May 2 -
8, 2005.
