State Historic Preservation Office publishes 13-month calendar for 2007

The supply of 2007 calendars is now gone. If you contact Conni McMorris at (304) 558-0240; or e-mail [email protected], you can be put on the list for next year's calendar.

The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History has published “Who Knew? Unusual Historic Sites in West Virginia,” a calendar highlighting unique historic resources, listed or considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. The calendar is free and available to the public while supplies last.

Each month, the calendar focuses on a different historic resource, including Hawks Nest in the Ansted vicinity; La Belle Iron Works in Wheeling; Wildcat Branch Petroglyphs in Wayne County; Camden Park in Huntington; Oakhurst Links Golf Course in White Sulphur Springs; the Reber Radio Telescope in Green Bank; Organ Cave in Ronceverte; and Cass Scenic Railroad; among others. The calendar also includes information about the National Register of Historic Places, the SHPO’s tax credit program and its grant programs.

To request a copy of the calendar, write to West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, 2007 Calendar, The Cultural Center, 1900 Kanawha Boulevard, East, Charleston, WV 25305-0300; call Conni McMorris at (304) 558-0240; or e-mail [email protected]. “Who Knew? Unusual Historic Sites in West Virginia” was funded in part by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.

The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, an agency of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, brings together the state’s past, present and future through programs and services in the areas of archives and history, the arts, historic preservation and museums. The Cultural Center is West Virginia’s official showcase for the arts. Visit the Division’s website at www.wvculture.org for more information about programs of the Division.
