Award winning furniture maker Jim Probst of Probst Furniture Makers will present The Business of Art: Taking it to the Top on Thursday, April 29, at the Clay Center’s Walker Theater. Probst will chronicle the development of his career in woodworking and discuss the processes involved in the craft of furniture making. His presentation is part of a series of workshops featuring some of West Virginia’s most successful craft artists. The program, which begins at 6:30 p.m., is free and open to the public. Two more workshops are planned at the Clay Center and Blackwater Falls Conference Center. Entrants submit three JPEG files of original work. All styles of artwork and photography created digitally that are suitable for wide format printing will be accepted. This call is international, open to all geographical locations. The selected winner receives 10 archival prints of their work up to 44x60 inches on canvas or museum quality paper (approximately a $1500-$2000 value) to be shown in a solo exhibition in our gallery. Artists and craftspeople, part-time or full time, with professional experience, may apply for grants in amounts up to $500. You may not apply for more than one grant in the state fiscal year period, July 1 to June 30.
