Richmond June 23rd

Friend Pierpoint
Col Darnell tells me that he recommended Lieut Currens for Lieut Colonelcy of the 10th.
Lieut Currens has just written to Gen Harris requesting that Gen Harris use his influence in my favor for Lieut Colency and of his for Major.

I hope for your influence in my favor. Col Darnell would gladly have signed a recommendation in my favor had I been here in time.

Send the commission for Captaincy first then if possible the other. You will receive a letter from Gen Harris in a few days containing a letter from Lieut Currens to the effect that I be made Lieut Col and he Major.

Yours resply
L. M. Marsh

Sir
Having received orders for the mustering out of our Reg you may expect us in Wheeling between the 8th and 15th of August.

Our command is scattered over the Counties of Nottoway, Prince Edward, Charlotte, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg and Halifax. It will require several days to gather command together as a portion you perceive are as far down as Carolina line.

It will then require several days to make out our rolls. Consequently I cannot tell precisely when we can make the landing but will write again and make time more definite.

Yours etc L. M. Marsh

Sir
During the time that I officiated as Lieut Col. I applied for a commission as 1st Lieut for Sert Roswell Shephardson of Co E 10th W. Va. By some means his name was overlooked by you.

When at Wheeling I again applied. Although irregular the Gov informed Col Darnell the commission should be issued. I gave Sergeant Shephardson to understand he should yet have same.

He has repeatedly written to me in regard to it. I have just received another letter from him in which he pleads so strong that I will obtain him same that I conclude to ask you to issue him a commission dated Aug 1st 1865.

True he is mustered out of service but it really was his due to have been made an officer a year ago. His pride will be gratified however, by receiving commission.

Send me if you can
Yours Respy
