Welcome!

West Virginia Archives and History

The Department of Arts, Culture and History launched a new website on September 15, 2021.
Old links that you may have bookmarked will not work. With regard to the Vital Research Records, the image links are now working; however,
some people are unable to access them because of what we believe is a conflict between http:// and https://.

We in Archives and History appreciate those individuals who use our pages for research purposes and apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused.

Whether studying for the Golden Horseshoe exam, researching your family lineage, or looking for information on the history of West Virginia, the Archives and History website is the premier on-line resource. The site features primary and secondary source documents, photographs, and databases; lists collections and other materials available in the State Archives; and provides research guides and assistance for genealogists.
