No news of importance some Bushwhackers have commenced opperations in the upper end of this County, which I will attend to shortly as soon as the roads get so we can pack provisions. I have a party at Trout's hill last week but without success. I should like to have some Guns as a portion of the Guns of five Companies of my Regt have become entirely useless. I think I have my Regiment efficient in drill and discipline and would like if they could be efficiently armed but the kind of arms that five Companies have are of that quallity that in firing ten or fifteen rounds the hammer screws breake of some, the nipples blow out of others, and some the Springs break. I hope it will please the Governor to urge upon the ordnance department the necessity of having those guns changed. I have written to the chief of ordnance about it.
Respectfully sir
