Abstract: This collection contains papers of Paul Douglas Casdorph, who served as a member of the faculty of West Virginia State College (University) for more than twenty-five years and as chairman of the history department; adjunct professor of history at the West Virginia University College of Graduate Studies; and a visiting professor at the University of Charleston. His papers include correspondence between 1962 and 2001 containing requests for information for his books and articles, early academic correspondence, some Casdorph genealogy; publications relating to his research, photos used in his Civil War books, various articles written by Casdorph, and miscellaneous documents.

Biographical Note:
Paul Douglas Casdorph was born September 5, 1932. He was a 1951 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, West Virginia, and received a Bachelor of Arts and Master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1970 he earned a Doctorate from the University of Kentucky. Casdorph served as a member of the faculty of West Virginia State College (University), Institute, West Virginia, for more than twenty-five years and as chairman of the history department; adjunct professor of history at the West Virginia University College of Graduate Studies; and a visiting professor at the University of Charleston. He published more than eighty articles and reviews in professional journals and newspapers, and authored eight books, including: Legislative Politics and the Public Schools in West Virginia, 1933 - 1958: A Twenty-Five Year History; A History of the Republican Party in Texas, 1865 - 1965 (with an introduction by Dwight D. Eisenhower); Let the Good Times Roll: Life at Home in America During World War II; Lee and Jackson: Confederate Chieftains; Prince John Magruder: His Life and Campaigns; and Confederate General R. S. Ewell: Robert E. Lee's Hesitant General. He was also a Ham radio operator for 51 years. Paul Douglas Casdorph died November 10, 2008, at his home in Charleston, West Virginia.
